Epinephrine

The need-to-know information for Epinephrine

Epinephrine

Pearls and Fun Nuggets

1. Did you know you can inhale epinephrine? 😬 Inhaled adrenaline may be used to improve the symptoms of croup.[14] It may also be used for asthma when other treatments are not effective.

2.  Epinephrine was discovered over a century ago 🔬 Napoleon Cybulski, a polish physiologist, first isolated epinephrine in 1895.[13]

3. It may play a role in long term memory ✔ It has been found that adrenergic hormones, such as adrenaline, can produce retrograde enhancement of long-term memory in humans. The release of adrenaline due to emotionally stressful events, which is endogenous adrenaline, can modulate memory consolidation of the events, ensuring memory strength that is proportional to memory importance.

4. Be careful not to give too much 😳 Myocardial infarction is associated with high levels of circulating adrenaline and noradrenaline, particularly in cardiogenic shock.[55][56]

Patient Perspectives

“Being allergic to bee stings, EpiPens have saved my life on two different occasions. Without it, I could easily have died from anaphylactic shock.”
